LAHORE: The Islamic month of Shaban commenced in Pakistan on January 31, following the sighting of the moon on Thursday, as confirmed by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing testimonies from across the country.
The holy night of Shab-e-Barat will be observed by the Muslims on February 13. Being a very significant night, it is known for prayers seeking blessings, forgiveness, and peace.
In recognition of Shab-e-Barat, the Sindh government has declared a local holiday for all educational institutions (schools, colleges, and universities) on 14th February 2025.
The decision means an extended weekend for students and allows them to celebrate the occasions without committing to academic work. The Punjab government, in contrast, has not yet announced a public holiday on 14th February, which means educational institutions in the province shall function normally unless there is notice to the contrary.
Therefore, students in Punjab will have to report to class on February 14, unless the government decides on a later date to announce another holiday.
